CHICAGO — Wednesday’s welcome session marked
the official opening of The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists
Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium, here.

Peter Rosenstein, the Academy’s executive
director, announced that the 2010 meeting has record attendance.

Keith M. Smith, CO, LO, FAAOP, president of the
Academy, noted that attendees will be able to earn up to 37 continuing
education credits over the course of the 3-day meeting.

“I am proud that we, at the Academy, continue to
move our profession forward, and that you, our members, continue to be so
supportive year after year,” Smith said.

The session also featured the premiere of the
Academy’s new career awareness video, “A Future with Meaning: Making
a Career of Making a Difference,” including appearances by practitioners,
O&P students, patients and supporters.

Rosenstein encouraged attendees to visit opcareers.org,
a Web site created by the Academy to be a source of information for recruiting
individuals to the O&P profession. The Web site and the video were made
possible, in part, by a U.S. Department of Education grant.
