Prosthetic Limb Drive Collects More Than 1,000 Boxes of Prosthetic Components for Haitian Amputees

Hanger Orthopedic Group in partnership with Physicians for Peace and Heather Mills, launched a nationwide prosthetic limb drive following the January 12th earthquake that devastated Haiti.

Donated prosthetic limbs were collected at any of Hanger’s patient care centers and then shipped directly to Physicians for Peace. Through Physicians for Peace’s partner network of Healing Hands for Haiti and St. Vincent’s School for Handicapped Children in the capital city of Port au Prince, prosthetic donations will be used to help new amputees.

Since the limb drive was launched in late January, more than 1,000 boxes totaling approximately 25,000 pounds of high-quality prosthetic components have been collected and sent to Physicians for Peace from 244 Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics patient care centers in 44 states.

Once the pre-owned prosthetic devices are received at the Physicians for Peace headquarters in Virginia, they are then put through a thorough evaluation and qualification process before they are shipped for use in Haiti.
