OPAF hosts First Dive and First Paddle at Eastern Michigan University

The Orthotics and Prosthetics Activities Foundation hosted a First Dive Intro to Scuba Clinic and First Paddle Kayaking Clinic at Eastern Michigan University’s pool facility on April 15. This was the third combined First Dive and First Kayak clinic hosted in collaboration with EMU.

The clinic hosted a dozen participants and provided introductory adaptive instruction in scuba diving and kayaking. The clinics were coordinated by Emily Irvine Rau, a graduate assistant at EMU’s orthotic and prosthetic program, and more than 50 volunteers were on hand to help the participants.

The clinic was sponsored by Becker Orthopedic, Ropp Orthopedic Clinic and Special Opportunities in Advanced Rehabilitation. Joe Cloutier and the staff from Huron Scuba of Ann Arbor provided scuba instruction and equipment, and the Athletes Disabilities Network, along with local volunteers and kayaking enthusiasts, supplied the necessary kayaking supplies and instruction.
