Amputee Coalition creates BMI calculator

The Amputee Coalition, in conjunction with members of its scientific and medical advisory committee, has created a body mass index calculator to help individuals with limb loss assess their weight status.

The Coalition does not consider the calculator to be a diagnostic tool. However, if an individual’s body mass index (BMI) indicates they may be overweight or obese, they should talk to their doctor about what they can do to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Along with the BMI calculator, the Amputee Coalition has compiled resources to help amputees increase their physical activity levels and eat a healthy diet. The body mass index calculator and other resources may be found at www.amputee-coalition.org.
