Ekso Bionics partners with Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering

Ekso Bionics Holdings Inc. will join the Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering as an industry partner. The companies will collaborate to enrich the human machine interface and enhance potential neural interfaces, according to a press release.

Ekso, an exoskeleton company, designs and creates wearable robots that enable mobility in stroke patients, individuals with spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.

The Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering (CSNE) is one of 20 engineering research centers across the country that promotes partnerships across industries and universities to facilitate the translation of technology to marketable products.

“Our expertise in decoding and interpreting brain signals is a perfect complement ot Ekso Bionics’ expertise in robotics and creating exoskeletons used in rehabilitation,” Rajesh Rao, PhD, director of CSNE and associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, stated in the release.

“Our exoskeleton platform enables CSNE to devote most of their time to research on the human machine interface,” Russ Angold, Ekso Bionics co-founder, stated in the release. “It makes sense to collaborate in an environment that affords us recruiting opportunities and the ability to sponsor directed research.”
