Department of Veterans Affairs issues adaptive sports grants for disabled veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced the availability of up to $8 million in grant funding to provide adaptive sports opportunities for disabled veterans and members of the Armed Forces.

“Adaptive sports can help veterans confront challenges and redefine their capabilities, which is critical to successful rehabilitation,” Sloan Gibson, acting secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, stated in a press release.

Eligible applicants, which should have adaptive sports entities with experience in large-scale adaptive sports programs, could receive up to $500,000 in grant funds to plan develop, manage and implement appropriate adaptive sports activities for disabled veterans and members of the armed forces. Funding may be used for the training, program development, equipment, recreation therapists, coaches, sports equipment, supplies, program evaluation and other activities related to program implementation and operation.
