Wounded Israeli, US veterans join Wounded Warrior Project’s ‘Soldier Ride’

Five former Israel Defense Forces soldiers who were wounded during their military service joined wounded U.S. veterans in the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride, which was held July 16-18 in New York.

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) participants included wounded veterans Itzik Gabai, Shmuel Desalei Mashasha, David Peretz, Yuval Carmel, Lt. (Res.) Nir, and their trainer, Yosef Ariav.

According to a press release, the IDF participants joined the ride through a Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) partnership with Friends of the IDF (FIDF) for the ride. Most of the IDF participants are part of the FIDF Strides program, which helps provides advanced prostheses to injured veterans for athletic activities.

“This unique cycling ride was a wonderful opportunity for wounded service members and veterans from the U.S. and Israel to bond and share experiences,” Peretz, an IDF veteran and FIDF Strides participant, said in the release. “Being part of the WWP Soldier Ride and meeting the FIDF supporters who made the Strides program possible was an amazing experience.”
