Alexander Schwartz, of St. Louis, is the winner of Össur’s 2017 #MyWinningMoment contest. Schwartz is a bilateral amputee who was born with fibular hemimelia.
According to a company press release, Schwartz’s winning moment came when he embraced his adversity. He credited his job working on a television show in helping him tell his story and connect with others. Schwartz also praised his Cheetah running blades, an Össur product, which, “made the singular difference in his physical mobility, as well as his perspective on life,” according to the release.
“After feeling the agility of the Össur Cheetahs, I no longer felt like there was something missing,” Schwartz said in the release. “After 20 years of growing up as a double amputee, I finally was able to feel like nothing could hold me back.”
According to the release, more than 400 participants entered the 2017 #MyWinningMoment online contest. As the winner, Schwartz and a guest will receive a 4-day, 3-night trip to Reykjavik, Iceland, which is home to Össur’s world headquarters and “some of Europe’s largest glaciers and numerous active volcanoes,” according to the release.
“This year’s #MyWinningMoment contest was the biggest yet, and we were tremendously
inspired while reviewing the entries, which allowed us to celebrate so many winning moments for people around the world,” Jon Sigurdsson, president and chief executive officer of Össur, said in the release. “Knowing that our upper- and lower-limb technologies enable people to experience even greater achievements, and enjoy life without limitations is tremendously rewarding to all of us at Össur.”
