Academy Issues a Call for Papers

The 2008 Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists will be held at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Fla. From Feb. 27 to March 1. The meeting provides clinical and professional education sessions and the opportunity for individuals to share their expertise with O&P practitioners and industry professionals while earning international recognition.

Applicants may choose from a variety of presentation opportunities:

  • Thranhardt Lecture Series: All abstracts must be original work, attributable to the author. Based upon the submitted abstracts, not more than four presentations will be chosen as potential recipients of the Thranhardt Lecture Series honorarium. These presentations will be delivered at the meeting. The two best presentations will be determined based upon content, delivery, clinical and scientific relevance of the presentation. Two $500 honoraria will be awarded to the selected presentations.
  • Free papers: Free paper submissions are intended to offer solutions to common problems, patient and practice management techniques, innovative uses of technology, or current research findings. The content or presentation of the information will promote quality or improvements in orthotic or prosthetic care, and will not promote a specific proprietary business or commercial interest. Content for this activity, including any presentation of therapeutic options, should be unbiased and, as much as possible, based on evidence.
  • Poster presentations: These presentations provide a forum for a one-to-one, in-depth discussion using narrative and visual material to display and communicate the objectives, methods, results and conclusions of a specific research study or illustrate a piece of equipment, technique, program.

The deadline for all submissions is July 31. Submissions may be made by online by visiting the Academy’s Web site at www.academyannualmeeting.org and filling out the online submission form. Applicants can also fax or mail a completed pdf version of the application form available at Academy’s Web site.
