Amputee Coalition launches Show Your Mettle Day

On Sat., April 27, the Amputee Coalition will celebrate Limb Loss Awareness Month by launching Show Your Mettle Day.

Inspired by blogger Peggy Chenoweth, who began a movement in 2011 to raise awareness about living well with limb loss, amputees across the country are asked to show their mettle by proudly showing their metal in public. Amputees can upload a photo of themselves to the Amputee Coalition’s Facebook page (facebook.com/AmputeeUSA). One photo can be submitted in four categories: individual; family, friends and community; support groups/facilities; and workplace.

The most-liked pictures from each category will receive recognition on the Amputee Coalition’s website, Facebook page, in the July/August issue of inMotion magazine and in the 2013 annual report.

As the national sponsor for the 2013 Show Your Mettle Day, WillowWood has committed $1 for every photo uploaded on the Coalition’s Facebook page, up to $10,000.

“Recovering from an amputation can really test an individual’s courage. Show Your Mettle Day is a fun and expressive way for amputees to highlight successes and make everyone aware that there is life after limb loss,” Lisa Watkins, communications coordinator for WillowWood, stated in a press release.
