MyoPro coded as exercise equipment

The four Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors (DME MACs) have determined the Myomo MyoPro must be coded as A-9300, exercise equipment.

The MyoPro is an upper extremity device that incorporates muscle sensors and an electric motor to augment patient-initiated movement and is designed to enable individuals to self-initiate and control movements of a partially paralyzed or weakened arm using their own muscle signals.

Upon evaluation of the product, the DME MACs and the Medicare Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding contractor (PDAC) have determined that the “item falls within the durable medical equipment benefit category, not within the braces benefit” and must be coded as A9300— exercise equipment, which is not covered by Medicare.
