Amputee Coalition calls for applications to scholarships

The Amputee Coalition is accepting applications for the Scott Decker, MD, Memorial Scholarship and the Christina Skoski, MD, Scholarship, according to a press release. The application deadline for both scholarships is April 7.

According to the release, the winner of the Scott Decker, MD, Memorial Scholarship will be awarded $1,000 toward college tuition in the 2017 to 2018 academic year. The scholarship is open to applicants with acquired or congenital limb loss who are younger than 21 years; are high school seniors, high school graduates or adults returning to school; or military personnel. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0; a minimum SAT/ACT score in the 60th percentile; and must currently attend or plan to attend an accredited college, university or trade school as a full-time student.

According to the release, preference will be given to applicants who reside in Maryland; however, applications will be accepted from non-Maryland residents.

Recipients will be selected based on life experience that reflects decency and kindness, demonstrated perseverance and hard work, academic performance and realistic life and professional goals, according to the release. Recipients will be notified no later than June 9.

The Christina Skoski, MD, Scholarship will award $1,000 to a full-time undergraduate student. Applicants must have a congenital limb difference or amputation.

According to the release, applicants for this scholarship must also have a have a minimum GPA of 3.5; a minimum ACT composite score of 28 and/or SAT score of 1,980; and must attend college full-time in the fall semester. Documentation of GPA and test scores must be mailed to the Amputee Coalition.
