Hanger announces amputee ‘life hack’ contest

Hanger Clinic has announced a new contest designed to connect amputees by providing tips and tricks that can make life with limb loss easier.

According to a press release, the #AmputeeLifeHacks contest encourages entrants to submit a short video that gives advice to help fellow amputees accomplish everyday tasks and activities. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 6.

“The goal of the contest is to connect the limb loss and limb difference community online, providing an opportunity to learn from one another, and receive encouragement,” according to a Hanger press release.

The company announced the context during a Facebook live broadcast that featured Winter, a bottlenose dolphin with a prosthetic tail. Winter was the subject of the book Dolphin Tale, as well as the 2011 film of the same name and its sequel. The grand-prize winner of the contest and a guest will receive a trip to meet Winter at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida. According to Hanger, a panel of judges will select three winners each month until the end of the contest period. Each winner will receive a $100 gift card and a Hanger Clinic t-shirt. At the conclusion of the contest period, the company will announce 10 finalists in late October. The grand-prize winner will be decided by the public during a 2-week voting period. The winner will be announced in mid-November.
