CMS announces O&P code changes for 2018

CMS has released updates to the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System for 2018, with just a “few minor changes,” according to a notification from the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association.

The code changes are to be applied to claims with a date of service on or after Jan. 1, 2018.

Among the changes are two new codes:

  • L3761 — “Elbow orthosis with adjustable position locking joint(s), prefabricated, off-the-shelf” and;
  • L7700 — “Gasket or seal, for use with prosthetic socket insert, any type, each.”

In addition, CMS announced a descriptor change for the code L3760. According to CMS, the code will now refer to, “Elbow orthosis, with adjustable position locking joint(s), prefabricated, item that has been trimmed, bent, molded, assembled, or otherwise customized to fit a specific patient by an individual with expertise,” according to the notification.

Previously, language in the code covered, “Elbow orthosis, with adjustable position locking joint(s), prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustments, any type.”

In the notification, AOPA stated it will review the changes and provide comments to CMS.
