CMS announces delay in DMEPOS competitive bidding program

CMS has temporarily delayed the implementation of the next phase of its durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies competitive bidding program, according to a statement from the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association. The delay is to allow the new administration further opportunity to review the program, the statement noted.

The program, Competitive Bidding 2019, which was announced Jan. 31, did not initially include off-the-shelf orthoses as a product category. According to the statement, the delay “indicates that the new administration has concerns regarding the future of the program.”

“While the announcement only discussed a temporary delay in implementing Competitive Bidding 2019, it remains to be seen what will happen next,” the statement noted. “AOPA will continue to monitor this situation and will provide updates when they are available.”
